KEN ASHMAN
Much like Jeanne, Ken exercised his creativity through various means and activities throughout his life.
Starting with Jeanne’s love for pearls he started designing and creating jewelry, consisting of precious metals and gems. From there he found his love for working with leather. This led him to begin designing and creating luxury handbags and accessories. While living in the Washington DC area his works were shown and sold at a number of established Art shows and fairs.
When they moved to Mexico the leather workshop moved with them. Once established in Merida he was driven to take his creativity and love for an unconventional medium, leather, into sculptural art. Continuing to work primarily with leather all are inspired by craftsmanship, utility and a desire to create and live with beautiful things. Creation of these art pieces have been added to his repertoire of bags, accessories and jewelry. Old world craftsmanship meets new and functional art. Designs are primarily hand-stitched and hand-finished pieces.
Ken’s art pieces have been shown locally at La Cirque Gallery and are displayed with his other work at Casa de la Bestia.
